Kas di Pali Maishi Curaçao

Not far from our resort, less than 15 minutes by car, you will find Kas di Pal’i Maishi. This is an authentic 130 year-old Kunuku cottage, which has been renovated and is open to the public.

When you drive across the countryside of Curaçao, you will often see such kunuku cottages. The cottages are easily recognizable because of their roofs made of corn stalks and their sloping walls. They were generally located in the immediate vicinity of a country house. Its residents often worked for the owners of the country houses. For construction they used corn sticks, twigs of the watapana tree, lime and the well-known aromatic aloe vera.

Until 1950, Kas di Pal'i Maishi was still inhabited. But now it is turned into the Kas di Pal’i Maishi Museum or the Plantation House Museum. It tells you how the slaves used to make use of the things that nature has to offer in Curaçao and often they give demonstrations.
